義鑑流 Gikan Ryū 其の六 Sono Roku

義鑑流 Gikan Ryū 其の六 Sono Roku

Now that everyone was sick of me breaking and pinning them, we looked at 義鑑流 Gikan Ryū 其の六 Sono Roku. Luckily it was more breaking and pinning! In the basic form you bring your opponent down and pin with both knees. Then you lift his leg backwards to break the hip joint.

Bujinkan Kata 括飛 Kappi and 梱飛 Konpi

Bujinkan Kata 括飛 Kappi and 梱飛 Konpi

We jumped right in with 括飛 kappi. The Japanese text says 飛び退き、which means we leap away after the second strike. But I also included a tobi leading into the first strike. This makes everything very dynamic and makes for good warmup. Each 手刀 shutō strikes 雨戸 amado AKA uko. But you must hide the attack...

Bujinkan 蹴砕 Keri Kudaki

Bujinkan 蹴砕 Keri Kudaki

We warmed up with 八方蹴り happō geri. We continue our study of 破術九法 hajutsu kyūhō with 蹴砕 keri kudaki. There are four basic forms to this kihon. The first is a 蹴り打ち keri uchi against a punch. It is important that after you kill the punch this way, you fill the vacuum this creates in...

Bujinkan 八方蹴り Happō Geri

Bujinkan 八方蹴り Happō Geri

We continue our study of 破術九法 hajutsu kyūhō with 八方蹴り happō geri. In Japanese the word happō should not always be taken literally to mean 8 ways. Hatsumi Sensei told us to turn the 8 on it’s side because happō really means infinite. In this kihon, we start with a basic set of kicks and...

We warmed up with 五行の型 gogyō no kata. Then I showed variations using hanbō 三心の構 sanshin no kamae. This means breaking...
