一文字の秘法 Ichimonji No Hihō

一文字の秘法 Ichimonji No Hihō

my Bujinkan video focusing on 一文字の秘法 Ichimonji no Hihō or the secret methods of Ichimonji. These are henka of from Hatsumi Sensei’s book, 武神館の秘法 Bujinkan no Hihō. After reviewing the basic form, I explain some details about the kamae itself. For beginners it is an expression of distance. For more advanced students it becomes a form of 虚実 kyojitsu.

基本八法 Kihon Happō Flow Drill

基本八法 Kihon Happo Flow Drill

my Bujinkan video warming up with a Gyokko Ryu training drill for 基本八法 Kihon Happo flow. I first learned this training drill in 2001 when Hatsumi Sensei set the yearly theme as Gyokko Ryu. This drill expects that you already know the basic form of each of the kihon happo.

Bujinkan Hanbo Waza 腕返し Ude Gaeshi

Bujinkan Hanbo Waza 腕返し Ude Gaeshi

my Bujinkan video exploring three 半棒術 hanbōjutsu kihon of 腕搦み ude garami, 腕返し ude gaeshi, and 竹折り take ori. I began class with a review of 腕搦み ude garami from last time. The opponent grabs your wrist to control your use of the weapon. The kanji 搦 suggests that we bind our opponent. This happens with the very weapon he seeks to control. Hatsumi Sensei has advised us to let the opponent have what they want. This leads to their self-destruction.

Bujinkan Kata 攅倒 Santō

Bujinkan Kata 攅倒 Santō

We warmed up with 骨指基本三法 kosshi kihon sanpō. But the attacker cuts with a 小太刀 kodachi. This threat presents unique challenges for each of the kihon. First with 一文字の構 ichimonji no kamae, I showed how to intercept the attack using an early timing for the uke. But what happens if you are late? I showed...

Bujinkan Kata 捕捉 Hosoku

We warmed up with 一文字之構 ichimonji no kamae, 飛鳥之構 hichō no kamae, and 十文字之構 jūmonji no kamae. I began class with 捕捉 hosoku. This means capture, and the opponent does seize your lapel before he strikes. But you then capture or seize that instant to retaliate. The retaliation comes in the form of a 鬼角拳...
