my Bujinkan Kuden covering 体変 Taihen Timing and Distance. We began by throwing shuriken to warmup. Our partner receives from 刀匿礮姿 Tōtoku Hyōshi.

To begin class I showed 足拂浮舟 ashi barai ukibune with the tachi. You may have seen this kata in Kashima-Shinryū tachi kihon, but it is not the same as our Bujinkan version. Our opponent cuts in, we receive with jodan uke. Then using 撚り型 yorigata, cut down to the leg.

Then we began class with the fifth Gikan Ryū waza that Noguchi Sensei taught in Japan. I already made one video covering this but it has a different title: 弱骨 Jakkotsu. So tonight was review, but I also added some additional details and henka.

We continue our review of 捕手基本型五法 Torite Kihon Gata Goho. Tonight was all about 表逆突 omote gyaku tsuki. After showing the kihon, I spent some quality study of ukemi for the uke in this kata.
I described 5 types of ukemi, but we only did 4. First was a katate zempo kaiten. Then mute zempo kaiten. Next was a katate koho kaiten. Then yoko nagare. We left the mute koho kaiten for another time. This part of training the kihon is equally important to being tori. You only "know" kihon if you study both.

my Bujinkan video exploring the waza 捻り返し hineri gaeshi. The feeling of nagare continued with unarmed taijutsu. We deliver a whirling strike with koppo ken to kasumi. It is both an attack and evasion in the same twist, or 捻り hineri.

my Bujinkan video exploring the Bujinkan kata 唯逆 yuigyaku. We warmed up with 順流れ jun nagare and 逆流れ gyaku nagare. First we did these as muto dori evasion against a sword cut. Then we used sword against sword as our opponent counters our cut, we evade with a nagare. The progression of ukemi should go...

We warmed up with 順流れ jun nagare and 逆流れ gyaku nagare. First we did these as muto dori evasion against a sword cut. Then we used sword against sword as our opponent counters our cut, we evade with a nagare. The progression of ukemi should go from two handed rolling, to one handed, and then...

We warmed up with 後流れ ushiro nagare, 逆流れ gyaku nagare, 前方流れ zenpo nagare, 順流れ jun nagare, 横流れ yoko nagare, and 立流れ tachi nagare. We did all of these while evading a sword cut. They are all difficult, but yoko and tachi nagare require a flash of inspiration to pull off when facing a sword. Or...
