My Bujinkan video exploring 人間骨法 Ningen Koppō. One spring night in Hatsumi Sensei’s class at the 東京武道館 Tōkyō Budōkan in Ayase, he defined the concept of Ningen Koppō. He did this in the language of martial arts, but the topic is bigger than that.

Then we began class with the fifth Gikan Ryū waza that Noguchi Sensei taught in Japan. I already made one video covering this but it has a different title: 弱骨 Jakkotsu. So tonight was review, but I also added some additional details and henka.

my Bujinkan video exploring 手解 Tehodoki with 片手内回 Katate Uchi Mawashi and 片手外回 Katate Soto Mawashi. The first kanji in tehodki means “hand”. The second comes from 解ける hodokeru which means to to come untied, to come apart, or unravel. But we normally translate tehodoki as wrist escapes.

We continue our study of 九構 kyu kamae with 攻勢の構 kōsei no kamae. I primarily focused on the 九鬼神流 Kukishin Ryu approach to this kamae. This kamae accommodates the wearing of armor. I used the 骨指基本三法 kosshi kihon sanpō from kōsei for the warmup. It is interesting how the kamae changes the use of space....
11/07/13 Warmed up with the 基本八法型 Kihon Happo Gata flow drill. One student observed that the kata work better when they are done in a spirited manner. So then I suggested that this starts with the attacker delivering a committed and substantial attack. So we repeated 骨指基本三法 Koshi Kihon Sanpo with this feeling. Since we...
10/22/13 Warmed up with 体変術無刀捕型 Taihenjutsu Mutōdori Gata. First 一文字之構 Ichimonji no Kamae, followed by 十文字之構 Jūmonji no Kamae, then 平之構 Hira no Kamae. During the Jūmonji, I added a henka that used yoko nagare. Now I began class with the kata 五輪碎 gorin kudaki. A vital part of our study this year is juppo...
Thursday 10/10/13 Warmed up with the 基本八法型 Kihon Happo Gata flow drill. Continuing from last time, we did 骨指基本三法 Koshi Kihon Sanpo with tobi footwork and the 捕手基本型五法 Torite Kihon Gata Goho with a punching attacker. This year in Japan, Soke has been exploring a variety of themes. For those of you who have followed...
Sunday 2/17/13 Warmed up with 骨指基本三法 Kosshi Kihon Sanpo. I made an emphasis on delivering your strikes to control your opponent and his ukemi. Then we did these with a hanbo. From here we focused on 一文字之構 Ichimonji no Kamae with the hanbo. After a little 打技 uchi waza, I focused on connecting to the...

my Bujinkan video exploring 廻捕 mawashi dori with kunai. AKA Mawari Dori. I have studied both variations with Hatsumi Sensei, and there are subtle differences.
I began class with 廻捕 mawashi dori. This sometimes called mawari dori, and we did that later. But first, with 廻し mawashi, muto dori skill is critical. If you move too much, you give your opponent options to kill you. Collapse the space by receiving the attack.
